Exports of sawn timber from Bashkiria fell by 20%
Exports of sawn timber from Bashkiria fell by 20% amid a reduction in the geography of supplies and staffing problems
Bashkiria has been showing negative dynamics in lumber exports for the third year in a row. For 9 months of 2025, the volume of supplies amounted to 45 thousand m3, which is 21.2% less than in the same period of 2024 (57.1 thousand m3). ![]() Key industry issues The main factors influencing the decline in export performance: • Narrowing of geography: Lumber is supplied to only 7 countries (Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) against 12 countries in the previous period • Staff reductions: The number of employees at Bashles decreased from 293 to 228 in 2 years • Loss of competitiveness: Amid the growth of federal exports, Bashkir enterprises are losing their positions in foreign markets
Expert opinion “Bashkir enterprises are currently inferior in competition to companies from other regions of the Russian Federation,” notes Anastasia Priklyova, Associate Professor at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. Context and perspectives Despite a significant decrease in lumber exports, there has been an increase in the supply of chipboard (OSB and chipboard) to China — by 4.3 times to 15.4 thousand m3 in January-May 2025. This indicates the potential for reorientation to other types of forest products. Conclusions for the industry The decline in exports requires a review of the strategy for the development of the region's timber industry, including: • Modernization of production facilities • Search for new sales markets • Switching to higher value-added products • Solving personnel problems Tags: #Bashkiria #exporting lumber #LPC #forestry #economy_regions Переведено «Яндекс.Переводчиком» Edited Moderator (Oct. 12, 2025 18:15:44) Offline
