PEFC UK joins TIMCON to promote certified wood in the packaging sector

The British branch of the International Forest Certification System PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) has become an affiliated member of the TIMCON Wooden Packaging and Pallet Confederation. The aim of the cooperation is to strengthen the promotion of certified wood in the key sector for Great Britain and Ireland, which consumes about 1.5 million cubic meters of lumber annually.

The main objectives of the alliance are:

  • Raising awareness about the benefits of wood from sustainably managed forests.

  • Building confidence in the environmental responsibility of the forest sector.

  • Joint promotion of responsible procurement practices throughout the supply chain.

Opinion of the parties:

"We are pleased to join TIMCON. Partnering with an industry association representing a sector that uses such significant amounts of wood will give us more opportunities to promote sustainable practices," John Kirkby, Executive Director of PEFC UK.

"By welcoming organizations such as PEFC UK, we strengthen our common goals, including promoting the use of certified wood," Stuart Hex, TIMCON General Secretary.

Context and conclusions for the Russian LPC

The convergence of certification and industry associations in key markets reflects the global trend towards stricter requirements for traceability and sustainability of wood supply chains.

For Russian exporters, this means:

  1. The growing importance of recognized certificates of sustainable forest management (PEFC, FSC) even in "unfriendly" markets.

  2. The need to meet not only the direct requirements of importing countries, but also the corporate standards of international companies, which increasingly require "clean" supply chains.

  3. The potential for stricter requirements at the legislative or industry level under the influence of such alliances.

Recommendation: The active development of certification systems and traceability of wood origin is becoming critically important for maintaining and restoring positions in the global market.
