Rosselkhoznadzor has checked 3.3 thousand cubic meters of Vologda forest for Tajikistan

Rosselkhoznadzor has checked 3.3 thousand cubic meters of Vologda forest for Tajikistan

Vologda Region continues to increase the supply of sawn timber to Tajikistan, demonstrating a twofold increase in exports compared to last year. Another batch of softwood lumber has successfully passed phytosanitary control and has been shipped to the Central Asian Republic. Tajikistan is becoming an increasingly important buyer for Vologda timber producers against the background of the reorientation of export flows from the West to the East and South.

Next shipment: control and compliance

On June 15, 2026, employees of the Northwestern Interregional Rosselkhoznadzor Department monitored the shipment of five shipments of softwood lumber with a total volume of 206 cubic meters. m. The products passed a full inspection cycle:

  1. - Laboratory tests at the North-Western branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIZH".
  2. - Visual inspection by inspectors for compliance with the phytosanitary requirements of the importing country.

All products are recognized as complying with the standards and are allowed to be imported into Tajikistan.

Half-year results: exports doubled

Since the beginning of 2026, the volume of exports of Vologda timber products to Tajikistan has reached 3.3 thousand cubic meters. For comparison, in the same period of 2025, this figure was only 1.5 thousand cubic meters.

PeriodExport volume (thousand m3)Dynamics

January – June 20251,5

The growth was exactly double, which confirms the steady demand for Russian softwood lumber in the Tajik market.

Context: Vologda Oblast strengthens its position in Central Asia

The Vologda Region is one of the largest timber-processing regions in the North-West of Russia. Traditionally, the main markets for its timber products have been European countries. However, after the introduction of sanctions and the closure of the Western window, regional exporters are actively reorienting to new directions.

Tajikistan is not the only Central Asian country where Vologda forest goes. Earlier it was reported about similar supplies from Khakassia, as well as the growing interest in Russian timber in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other republics of the region.

Advantages of cooperation with Tajikistan:

  • - Logistical accessibility: the transport shoulder from Vologda to Central Asia is shorter than to the Far East or China.
  • - Clear requirements: the phytosanitary standards of Tajikistan are unified with the requirements of the EAEU.
  • - Stable demand: Tajikistan is actively building housing and infrastructure, which creates a steady demand for softwood lumber.

Importance for the forestry industry

  1. - Diversification of sales markets: A twofold increase in supplies to Tajikistan shows that Central Asia is becoming a real alternative to the lost European market.
  2. - Capacity utilization: For Vologda sawmills, which are faced with a drop in domestic demand and difficulties exporting to China, the Tajik direction is an opportunity to load production and save jobs.
  3. - An example for other regions: The successful experience of the Vologda Oblast can be scaled to other forest regions of Russia (Arkhangelsk, Kirov, Kostroma regions), which are also looking for new markets in Central Asia.
  4. - Regular quality control: The Rosselkhoznadzor's participation and laboratory studies confirm that Russian timber meets international standards, which strengthens the trust of foreign buyers.
  5.

The prospects

Supplies of Vologda timber to Tajikistan are expected to continue to grow in the second half of 2026. According to experts, the annual volume may exceed 6-7 thousand cubic meters, which will be a new record for this area.

For the Tajik side, Russian lumber is a high—quality and affordable raw material for construction and furniture production. For the Russian side, it is a stable sales market in the context of a global restructuring of trade flows.

The key conclusion

The twofold increase in Vologda timber supplies to Tajikistan is not a temporary trend, but a systemic shift in export flows to new markets. The timber industry, which did not have time to rebuild after the loss of Europe, is at risk of losing these opportunities. Those who actively explore Central Asia receive a stable sales channel and long-term contracts.
