Production of WPC decking started in Karelia: capacity — 120 tons per month

Petrozavodsk has launched Karelia's first production of decking made of wood-polymer composite (WPC). The new site of the "Krona" company is designed to produce up to 120 tons of products per month. Investments in the project exceed 700 million rubles.

Production started on September 15, 2026. At the first stage, two production lines were put into operation. In the future, their number is planned to increase to four, which will increase the production of decking and expand the range of products made of wood-polymer composite.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Government of the Republic of Karelia. The company is provided with government support measures, including industrial mortgages and preferential loans from the Industrial Development Fund. The regional authorities also intend to promote products on the Russian market and explore the possibilities of organizing export supplies.

Karelia expands deep processing of wood

The production of decking has become the next stage of the investment project "Kron", aimed at the development of deep processing of wood raw materials.

In June 2025, the company launched a workshop for the production of furniture boards in Petrozavodsk. Then, a site was created at the enterprise for the preparation of wood raw materials and the production of wood-polymer granules. Now the resulting raw materials are used for the production of finished products from WPC.

According to Pavel Kullenen, CEO of "Krona", the wood-polymer composite is resistant to temperature fluctuations and adverse weather conditions. The WPC decking is not susceptible to cracking to the same extent as some traditional materials and is designed for long-term operation.

Today, the company employs more than 60 people. The company expects to increase the number of staff as production develops.

The use of waste increases the depth of processing

For the Russian timber industry, the development of WPC production is of interest not only as the release of a new type of construction and finishing products. One of the key effects of the project is related to the more efficient use of wood raw materials and woodworking waste.

At the "Kron" enterprise, the by-products of furniture panel production are used as raw materials for further processing. As a result, the wood resource goes through several successive stages — from wood processing to the production of products with higher added value.
